Strömmen/Lilla Värtan
Pro-Am 22 June
Pro-Am is a new concept developed by Volvo Ocean Race. The Volvo Open 70 yachts sail in a race with six of their regular crew but also have limited places for invited guests, giving them a once-in-a-lifetime experience onboard a Volvo Open 70. This also adds an extra dimension to the race for the public. The course will be designed so the start, finish and rounding marks maximise the publics ability to watch from docks and other viewpoints on the Stockholm waterfront. Standings for the Volvo Ocean Race are not changed by the results of the Pro-Am Race.
Skeppsbron and Kungsträdgården
Race Village 14-25 June

The Race Village is located on Skeppsbron and Kungsträdgården in central Stockholm and is open between 14-25 June 2009. It contains a service place for the competing boats, team bases, spectator pavilions, restaurants, entertainment and activities for visitors.
The Team Bases prepare the Volvo Open 70 yachts for the different parts of the competition including the In-Port Race and the start of Leg 10 to St Petersburg. This section of the event area will be visible for the public via transparent tents and an open plan set-up. Visitors can see what it takes both in terms of organisation and technical support to run a competitive team for the Volvo Ocean Race. Many of the teams will also have their own tailor-made pavilions both for sponsor activities and open to the public.
As well as the current restaurants that are on and around Skeppsbron, there will also be a number of temporary event restaurants that can provide a wide range of food options from a simple sandwich to a gourmet meal.
In the Race Village, visitors will also have the opportunity to be part of a spectacular entertainment and activity program which includes popular artists and acts on stage, and Volvo Ocean Race Experience with for example the Ride -a simulator allowing visitors to come a bit closer to experiencing sailing on a Volvo Open 70, and the Pool - sailing with radio-controlled yachts.
