Race Village

The Race Village is located on Skeppsbron and Kungsträdgården in central Stockholm and is open between 14-25 June 2009. It will contain a service place for the competing boats, team bases, spectator pavilions, restaurants, entertainment and activities for visitors.

The Team Bases prepare the Volvo Open 70 yachts for the different parts of the competition including the In-Port Race and the start of Leg 10 to St Petersburg. This section of the event area will be visible for the public via transparent tents and an open plan set-up. Visitors can see what it takes both in terms of organisation and technical support to run a competitive team for the Volvo Ocean Race. Many of the teams will also have their own tailor-made pavilions both for sponsor activities and open to the public.

As well as the current restaurants that are on and around Skeppsbron, there will also be a number of temporary event restaurants that can provide a wide range of food options from a simple sandwich to a gourmet meal.

In the Race Village, visitors will also have the opportunity to be part of a spectacular entertainment and activity program which includes popular artists and acts on stage, sailing with radio-controlled yachts and a Volvo Ocean Race simulator, allowing visitors to come a bit closer to experiencing sailing on a Volvo Open 70.
